Objectives:

To identify a traditional product, craft, or agricultural practice from a specific region and develop a viable, modern business model around it.

Event Structure:

  • Duration:3 hours
  • Format:Rapid-fire pitching with a Q&A session.
  • Team Composition:6-10 members per team

Tracks:

Tracks Target Students Scope
The Marketplace General MBA Textiles, handicrafts, wellness/Ayurveda, tourism, or traditional tech (e.g., Channapatna Toys, Phulkari Embroidery, Madhubani Paintings, Bishnupur Terracotta art, etc).
The Agripreneur MBA (FABM) Regional snacks, indigenous grains, organic farming tech, or traditional processing (e.g., Mithila Makhana, Agra Petha, Thalassery Biryani, etc).

Pitching Framework (The “5-Slide Pitch”)

Since this is an induction event, each team gets 5 minutes to pitch:

  1. The Origin Story: What is the traditional product/knowledge? Which region does it come from, and what is its history?
  2. The Modern Gap: Why isn’t this product a global or national brand yet? (e.g., poor packaging, supply chain issues, lack of marketing).
  3. The Business Model: How will you commercialize it? Who is the target audience?
    1. Operational Strategy:
      1. How will you commercialize it? Who is the target audience?
      2. For General MBA, this includes the artisan-to-consumer path.
  4. Sustainability & Impact: 4.How does your business help the local community or preserve the tradition?

Judging Criteria:

Judges should look for “The Three V’s”:

  • Viability:Is it a realistic business, or just a nice idea?
  • Value Proposition: Does it solve a modern problem using traditional methods?
  • Vulnerability:How well did they identify the risks (e.g., scaling handmade goods)?
