Prof. Dr. S. B. Mujumdar is the Founder and President of Symbiosis and the Chancellor of Symbiosis International (Deemed University). A distinguished academician and educationist, he is widely respected for his lifelong contribution to higher education and international understanding.

Born on 31 July 1935 in Gadhinglaj, Kolhapur district, Maharashtra, Dr. Mujumdar pursued his Master’s degree in Botany and earned a Doctorate in Microbiology. He served as the Head of the Department of Botany at Fergusson College, Pune, for over two decades and has authored several books and published numerous research papers in the field of botany.

He has also served on the Executive Council, Senate, and Academic Council of the University of Pune, contributing significantly to academic governance and policy formulation.

Awards and Honours

Dr. S. B. Mujumdar has received several prestigious civilian and academic honours in recognition of his outstanding service to education:

  • Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2005
  • Punyabhushan Award in 2009
  • Padma Bhushan by the Government of India in 2012

Dr. Vidya Yeravdekar is the Pro Chancellor of Symbiosis International (Deemed University) and the Principal Director of Symbiosis Society. Under her visionary leadership, Symbiosis has evolved into a truly multidisciplinary, multinational, and multicultural institution, hosting more than 45,000 students from across India and over 85 countries.

Beyond the University, the Symbiosis Society also oversees K–12 schools, colleges of Arts and Commerce, and cultural institutions including the Afro Asian Cultural Museum and the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Museum and Memorial.

Education and Academic Contributions

Dr. Vidya Yeravdekar holds a postgraduate degree in Medicine, a degree in Law, and a Ph.D. in Internationalisation of Higher Education in India. She has presented research papers at numerous national and international conferences and has several research publications to her credit. She is also the author of books on higher education and internationalisation, published by leading academic publishers.

She has been instrumental in introducing innovative approaches to promote internationalisation in Indian higher education and academic governance.

Leadership Roles and Policy Engagement

Dr. Vidya Yeravdekar has served as a member of the University Grants Commission (UGC) for two terms, the Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE) under the Ministry of Education, and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) under the Ministry of External Affairs.

She was appointed as a member of the Expert Group on Global Outreach of Higher Education constituted by the UGC to support the implementation of the National Education Policy 2020. Her global advisory roles include membership in the Advisory Group for Analytical and Advisory Services of the World Bank, the Advisory Committee of the International Association of Universities (IAU), and the Board of Trustees of Muscat University, Oman.

Corporate and Institutional Engagements

Dr. Vidya Yeravdekar currently serves as the Chairperson of the FICCI Committee on Higher Education and is serving her third term in this role. She is also the Vice President of the Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA).

Dr. Ramakrishnan Raman is an accomplished academician and seasoned professional, currently serving as the Vice Chancellor of Symbiosis International (Deemed University). With a strong foundation in technology, management, and research, he brings a rare blend of academic depth and strategic leadership to the University.

With over two decades of experience across corporate, academic, and research domains, Dr. Raman has played a key role in strengthening institutional governance, academic quality, and strategic development at Symbiosis.

Dr. Ramakrishnan Raman holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering, an MBA in Systems and Marketing, and a doctoral degree in Management from the Pune University. His multidisciplinary academic background enables him to bridge technology, management, and policy in higher education leadership.

In 2024, Dr. Ramakrishnan Raman was appointed as a distinguished member of prestigious committees constituted by the University Grants Commission (UGC). His expertise continues to contribute meaningfully to policy formulation, academic reforms, and process enhancement at the national level.
