MBA – Food and Agri - Business Management

PROPOSED PROGRAMME STRUCTURE (2022-24 )

OBJECTIVE

Agriculture employs probably the largest number of people in India, and is one of the largest contributors to the Indian GDP,( approx.. 20.19 %) after Services ( 53.89 % ) and Industry ( 25.92% ). ( Source : Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation – as quoted in https://statistics.com ). It also offers good scope for Management professionals, in various functions, as the sector is now looking at modernization and also looking at different ways of doing business, as has being envisaged by the Government. This calls for professionals to enter the sector and make a difference. Similarly, the Food Sector, (which is intrinsically linked to Agriculture, more specifically the management of business operations thereof,) is gaining ground, looking at the forward requirements of Agri – Business, and the change in consumption patterns of food products, including processed / frozen products.

The Processed food sector is expected to touch $ 535 billion in revenues by 2025-26, while the Frozen Food sector ( in 2020 ) clocked ₹ 9879 crores in revenue.

Both these sectors are expected to provide employment opportunities going forward, considering the expected growth in both.

Both Food and Agribusiness need managers and other specialist positions for them grow fast and consistently. These sectors carry a lot of risks owing to dependence on natural elements. MBAs, through their knowledge, education and experience, can negate risk factors, and ensure that growth does not stop. There is a need for people in both, the public and private sectors.

The objective of this course is to boost the employability of students especially in the Marketing, Finance, Operations, Distribution and Procurement space in Agriculture and Foods, thus providing professionals to the sectors as well as driving growth and efficiency in both the sectors.
